CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS REVISED 1994 |

ARTICLE 1. NAME AND ADDRESS
A. The name of this organization shall be "CALLERS ASSOCIATION OF MODESTO AREA".
B. The official address of the C.A.M.A. shall be 2209 North 7th St. Ceres California 95307
ARTICLE ll. AIMS AND PURPOSES
A. To provide workshops for the education and training of its members in the art of Square Dance Calling
and/or Round Dance Cueing.
B. To maintain a current directory of members and their respective membership classifications:
1. To be printed in local Square and/or Round Dance publication.
2. To be made available to any individual or group upon request.
C. To establish and enforce a Code of Ethics for its members.
D. To conduct business for the promotion and/or benefit of the majority of its members.
E. To promote cordial relations with and be supportive of C.C.S.D.A. and C.C.S.D.A. member clubs.
F. To maintain up-to-date copies of this Constitution and By-Laws.
1. Shall be provided to anyone who desires membership in this association
2. Shall be made available to any individual or organization upon request.
ARTICLE lll. MEMBERSHIP
A. The membership of this Association shall consist of the following classification:
1. Associate Membership
2. Full Membership
3. Life Membership
B. General Qualifications:
1. To qualify for any class of membership, an applicant shall be of good moral character and
reputation and must accept and practice the CODE OF ETHICS included in these By-Laws.
Any applicant may apply for the class of membership he/she desires and must meet the
requirement of that classification to be accepted.
2. In order for an applicant to be eligible they must show proof of liability insurance coverage
and maintain such as long as they are a member of this association.
C. The Requirements, Responsibilities and Rights of the membership classifications are described below:
1. Associate membership
a. Requirements:
(1) Must have had no less than one (1) year dancing experience after
graduating from a beginners class at the Callerlab Mainstream Program.
(2) Must currently be an active member of a C.C.S.D.A. member club and
have been such for at least six (6) months prior to application. Or
Must currently be calling for a Square and/or Round Dance club at least two
(2) times each month (may or may not be a C.C.S.D.A. member club).
(3) Must have called at C.A.M.A. workshops on at least two (2) different
dates using mainstream material designated by the Square Dance Program
Chairman and/or basic level round dances designated by the Round Dance
Program Chairman,
depending on the area of calling the applicant is pursuing.
(4) Must submit application form provided by C.A.M.A. to the Membership
Chairman.
(5) Must be sponsored by two (2) Full Members of C.A.M.A. who have shared
the stage with and/or who has danced to Square Dance Calling and/or who has
danced to the Round Dance Cueing of said applicant.
(6) Must be accepted by a majority vote of Full Membership present.
b. Responsibilities:
(1) Must call and/or present material at least (2) dates in each calendar year
(the first year may be less, depending on what month eh/she was accepted)
at C.A.M.A. Workshops, time permitting.
(2) Must meet the requirements of Article X, Attendance.
(3) Must pay yearly dues and assessments to C.A.M.A. as is provided for by
this Association.
(4) Failure to meet responsibilities shall remove an associate member from
any and all membership within C.A.M.A. for a period of at least one (1) year
from date of removal.
c. Rights
(1) Has voice in C.A.M.A. meetings.
(2) Does not have vote in regular and/or special meetings.
(3) Does have vote within a committee when he/she is a member of said
committee.
(4) May not hold any office or chairmanship.
(5) May serve as a member of a committee except as follows:
(a) May not serve on Membership Committee.
(b) May not serve on Constitution and By-Laws committee.
(6) May call at beginner hoedowns hosted by C.C.S.D.A. member clubs at the
discretion of the MC.
2. Full Member
a. Requirements:
(1) Must have been a C.A.M.A. Associate Member for at least one (1) year
immediately preceding date of application.
(2) Must currently be calling for a C.A.M.A. member club in the geographical
area.
(3) Must have graduated a beginner class of at least twenty-five (25) lessons
at Callerlab Mainstream Program for Square Dancing. OR
Must have graduated a beginner class of at least sixteen (16) lessons or
Round Dancing (both Waltz and Two-Step basics).
(4) Must teach or workshop selected material at a regular C.A.M.A.
Workshop before a person can be accepted as a Full Member (this is in
addition to lll, C, 2, a, (3).)
(5) Must submit application to Membership Chairman at meeting one (1)
month
prior to eligibility date and be accepted by majority of membership
present at next regular meeting,
b. Responsibilities
(1) Must meet the requirements of Article X, Attendance.
(2) Must present material and call at C.A.M.A Workshop at least two (2)
times per each calendar year, time permitting.
(3) Must be an active caller and/or teacher for a C.C.S.D.A member club or
other recognized association club in the geographical area.
(4) Must pay yearly dues and assessments as provided for by this association.
(5) In the event a Full Member does not meet Responsibility number three (3),
then he/she shall revert to Associate Member status until such time he/she
meets the requirements of
Article lll, C, A, (2) and (3).
(6) If any other responsibilities in this Article are not adhered to, then said
member shall revert to Associate Member status for a period of at least one
(1) year, then he/she may reapply as a new Full Member.
c. Rights
(1) Has a voice in C.A.M.A.
(2) Has vote in regular and special meetings and committees of which he/she is
a member.
(3) May serve as elected official of C.A.M.A
(4) May hold committee chairmanship and/or serve as committee member.
(5) May call at beginner hoedowns hosted by C.C.S.D.A. member clubs.
(6) Is eligible to call at 5th Saturday dances or any dance sponsored by
C.A.M.A. or C.C.S.D.A,
3. Life Membership
a. Requirements
(1) Must have been active at least ten (10) years in C.A.M.A. as a
Full Member.
(2) Granted on recommendation and approval of Full Membership.
b. Rights and Responsibilities:
(1) Shall always have voice in C.A.M.A. regular meetings.
(2) To have vote, must qualify under Full Membership, excluding the payment
of dues and assessments.
(3) Is a permanent position.
(4) Shall have the rights of any classification of membership when he/she meets the
qualifications and responsibilities of
said classification, excluding the payment of
dues and assessments.
ARTICLE lV - CODE OF ETHICS
A. All members automatically pledge to accept and practice the following Code of Ethics. Any and all
violations of this Code of Ethics could result in removal or disciplinary action by the voting
membership at a regular or special meeting.
1. Conduct him/herself in a professional manner when attending any square or round dance
event.
2. Aim primarily to give his/her group enjoyment.
3. Discourage cliques.
4. Help beginner dancers.
5. Cooperate with other callers and teachers in the free exchange of calls, cues, dance
materials and helpful ideas.
6. Adhere to Round-A-Lab and Callerlab standardization and directives.
7. Keep all scheduled engagements.
8. Abstain completely from the use of illegal narcotics and refrain from the use of intoxicating
liquors before and during any open square or round dance function.
9. Must call at the level established at/for each beginner hoedown and or regular dance.
ARTICLE V - DUES AND ASSESSMENTS
A. Annual dues are payable on January 1st of each year and are deemed delinquent after March 1st.
B. Dues may be changed at regular meetings before January 1st by the majority of the voting
membership.
C. Assessments may be made when necessary, not to exceed the amount of yearly dues by the majority
of the voting membership.
ARTICLE Vl - MANAGEMENT
A. The management of the Association shall be vested in an Executive Board consisting of the
President, Vice=President, Secretary and Treasurer.
B. Elective offices consist of : President, Vice=President, Secretary and Treasurer.
1. Duties of Elective Offices:
a. The duties of the President shall be to guide, direct, control, coordinate and generally
administer all functions and activities of the Association. Shall appoint temporary
committees as the need arises.
b. The duties of the Vice-President shall be to assist the President in routine matters
and act in place of the President in case of the President's absence or incapacity.
c. The Secretary shall handle all correspondence. Shall be responsible for the
reproduction and distribution of material to members. Shall maintain efficient files for
correspondence, reports, manuals, dance material and the like. Shall receive all reports
and minutes from all committees and make the proper disposition thereof. Shall notify
all members of special meetings.
d. The Treasurer shall be responsible for all financial affairs of the Association and
shall keep complete and accurate records. Shall render an oral monthly financial report
and a written report annually to the Association. All checks must be signed by either
the President and.or the Treasurer.
2. Provisions is hereby made for the President or one delegate appointed by the president of
C.A.M.A. to attend sessions of the Central California Square Dance Association (C.C.S.D.A.)
and have a voice, but no vote.
3. Any vacancies of elective positions during a year may be filled by Presidential appointment
with the approval of the membership/
C. Appointed offices consist of: Membership Chairman, Program Chairman, Round Dance Chairman,
Publicity Chairman and Parliamentarian.
1. Duties of Appointed Offices:
a. The Membership Chairman shall be responsible for applications for membership,
investigation and recommendations to the membership.
b. The program Chairman shall arrange to have sound equipment for workshops,
schedule members to present material at workshops and see that workshop material
is turned over to the Secretary. Insure that necessary information gets to the Publicity
Chairman for all Publicity necessary.
c. The Round Dance Chairman will schedule and coordinate the presentation of round
dance material at monthly workshops.
d. The Publicity Chairman will see to all publicity for C.A.M.A.
e. The Parliamentarian will see that the By-Laws are followed, and see that the
meetings are conducted with ROBERTS RULES OF ORDER. Revised as a guide.
ARTICLE Vll - ELECTIONS
A. The elective offices provided for in Article Vl shall assume duties for a term of one (1) year,
commencing at the November regular meeting. No elective officer shall serve more than two
(2) successive terms in the same office.
B. A nominating committee shall consist of at least two members, appointed by the President, no later
than the August meeting. Name of nominees shall be submitted at a regular meeting one (1) month
prior to elections. Additional nominations of willing nominees may be made from the floor.
Election to be in October, to take office in November.
ARTICLE Vlll - MEETINGS AND FISCAL YEAR
A. Regular general meetings of this Association shall be held on the third (3) Sunday of each month.
Meetings
shall be at such place and at such time as the Association shall determing. Special meetings may be
called when and if required.
1. No more than two (2) meetings may be canceled per year, by vote of the membership a
minimum of two (2) months prior to cancellation.
B. Charges against a member shall be made in writing and signed by at least three (3) members of
C.A.M..A. One copy shall be presented to the concerned individual and one (1) copy to the
membership.
C. Any person who has had his/her membership revoked for reasons other than non-payment of
dues and/or assessments or attendance requirements shall not be eligible to reapply for
Association Membership before two (2) years following the date of revocation.
D. Any member delinquent on dues and/or assessments shall be automatically suspended from
membership and shall be reinstated only when delinquent and currently payable dues and/or
assessments have been paid in full.
ARTICLE X - ATTENDANCE
A. Must attend 50 percent of the workshops and meetings per year.
B. Any member who fails to attend for (3) consecutive meetings of this Association, without good
reason, may be dropped from membership after notification in writing. Termination of membership
will require a majority vote of the members present. The vote shall be by secret written ballot.
ARTICLE Xl - AMENDMENTS
These By-Laws may be revised, amended or supplemented by a majority vote of those present at any regular meeting provided that a written notice of such proposed revision, amendment or supplement is mailed to all voting members at least ten (10)days prior to the meetings.
ARTICLE Xll - DISSOLUTION
In the event of the dissolution, disbanding or other termination of this Association, any assets remaining other and above all liabilities, shall be given to the Central California Square Dancers Association (C.C.S.D.A.) in the Modest Area by the Executive Board.
ARTICLE Xlll -
Anything not covered by this Constitution and By-Laws shall be decided according to the latest available copy of Roberts Rules of Order.
